Our daughter Jacey is 7 years old and has been attending Premier Taekwondo for almost 2 years. She loves the sessions and has learnt so many new skills. Recently Jacey was assessed by an Education Phycologist due to concerns with her development in learning and anxiety in school. We were surprised that her diagnosis has confirmed ADHD and dyslexia, with her main weakness being in her working memory. We were a little shocked by this outcome as she has been so successful with her gradings, remembering the patterns and having the confidence to achieve her belts….so how could this be? Apparently, ADHD represents differently in girls…who knew! The report and feedback we received from the specialists, states ‘Jacey has developed her own strategies to cope with her processing and memory’. The referral report has ‘strongly recommended’ that her participation in Taekwondo has provided her with these skills by both the way the sessions are delivered and the focus on routine. As parents we see the difference in her confidence and reduction in her anxiety when she attends her weekly class at Premier, however, we now recognise it has helped her with so much more! We initially brought both our children here to have a go at a different activity and we are very grateful to all the Masters for playing such a significant role in our daughters development and future, in both education and learning, and her health and well-being.
